Change the Atmosphere of a Space

Whenever you want to redecorate, renovate or design your own home, you have an amazing opportunity to create an atmosphere that really works for you.

This is when you can go mad choosing flooring, painting walls and selecting lighting and furniture, in this mode, feng shui is all about making more informed choices, so every decision is taken knowing the effect it will have upon the people living there. The focus is solely on the occupants, rather than on the style of the home.

In one sense, this is really preventative feng shui, because rather than trying to solve a problem using feng shui, you have a chance to avoid doing something that will have an adverse influence on your life. If your life is going well, you do not want to do anything to upset it.

If you are fortunate enough to be able to design your own home, you can even specify the layout of the rooms, their proportions and the materials with which your new house will be built. You may even be able to decide which direction it faces, and therefore the kind of chi that will pour into the front of your home.

Design Tips:

Special features, think through how you will bring in many special feng shui features, such as plants, a water feature or candles. In this way everything has its own special place in your home.

Be Flexible:

Whether your project is small or large, it is always best to make each room as flexible as possible and to keep built-in furniture to a minimum.

For example, it is always good to have two or three options in terms of where you van place your bed, but built-in wardrobes can soon limit this to one. If this position turns out not to be beneficial to you, subsequent changes can be expensive.

Try to design rooms using free-standing furniture and allow yourself the freedom to move things around at a later date.

Consider The Materials You Will Be Using

Many modern materials can give off toxic fumes for years after you have installed them. Try using organic paints; solid wood for flooring, surfaces and furniture; and pure wool or cotton for fabrics; and minimize the use of plastics.
