Guide 2 Feng Shui   >   Facing Direction

Establish the Facing Direction of Your Home

The direction in which your home faces will predicate it to draw in more of that chi. This direction is normally the one that faces the entrance to the site and contains your front door. This is clear in a home that faces the road, has a drive leading into the property or has the front door and garage entrance facing a road.

It is less clear in apartments, because the entrance to the apartment is often from an internal hall, corridor or stairwell. In addition, it is possible that no part of the apartment will face the main road. In this case, the side of the apartment that contains the most windows should be considered the front.

If there is a choice, where two or more sides have a similar number of windows, the side that faces the same direction as the entrance to the whole building (or the side that faces the road) should be considered the facing direction of your home.

The theory is that movement along a road stirs up the chi there, and this mobile chi then gets directed towards your home as people or vehicles approach it. This means that a greater amount of chi comes into the front of your home, compared with the other directions.

The more people who come up to your front door, the greater the flow of chi. This includes postal workers, delivery people, friends, family and yourself.
