Feng Shui House Design

When designing a new home, you have the opportunity to layout all the rooms in positions where the ambient chi suits the purpose of the room. In the example given here, the kitchen is situated in the south-east, where the wood chi is harmonious with both the fire of the cooker and the water of the sink. Similarly, the water in the bathroom is in harmony with the wood chi of the east.

The living and dining room is to the south and south-west, encouraging a social, interactive atmosphere.

The south is ideal for entertaining and the south-west for settling down.

The main entrance is to the west, bringing in more of the chi that helps you feel content, playful and romantic. The open central hallway gives the powerful chi of 5 (centre of the standard magic square) plenty of space to move.

The library/study is placed in the north-west, making it easier to be organized, feel in control and plan ahead.

Putting the bedroom in the north makes it easier to benefit from this quiet chi for deep sleep.

The dressing room in the north-east is in the location suited to feeling clear-minded and decisive. Alternatively, this would make a good location for playing games.

The following gives ideas for the perfect colours, materials and shapes for each room. Each room mixes in other elements that are harmonious, using the five-element principles. For example. The fire of the south also includes wood and soil elements.
